Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver cakes?

Yes, I do deliver cakes. I charge £0.50 per mile plus the time it takes to get to and from your venue plus any time spent setting up and dressing your cake. You’re welcome to collect single-tiered and smaller two-tiered cakes from my kitchen. I can deliver larger cakes to your venue, even if they are outside Devon. Fuel costs and hours of travel will increase costs substantially.

Can you make cakes for special diets?

I develop all my recipes to suit your dietary needs. My cakes are made in a small kitchen where nuts, eggs, milk, soya and gluten are frequently used, so I can’t guarantee that your cake is prepared in an allergen-free space. I go to great lengths to avoid cross-contamination, including separate baking days and separate equipment and storing ingredients carefully.

How much are your cakes?

I’ve included some general pricing information, but your cake will be priced individually as each cake is bespoke and planned with you in mind. Everything on your cake is homemade, including fruit curds, compotes, fillings and frostings, and all of this takes a great deal of time. Sadly, as we all know, food, fuel and energy costs are rising on a daily basis, so I have to take these increases into consideration when I’m planning your cake.

Sometimes it’s really useful to start with your budget and work backwards. For example, simple two tiered naked wedding cakes in one cake flavour with a simple petal or floral decoration are a great option for smaller weddings.

Another important is factor is what is the purpose of your cake? Is it to share with your guests as a taster or a toast? Is it for a sharing platter in the evening? Or is it going to be your dessert so you won’t need to provide a dessert and a cake? Ask your catering team if they’re happy to serve your cake as your dessert.

Where are your ingredients from?

The flavour, texture and deliciousness of your cake is completely dependent on the quality of the ingredients I use. I will never compromise on my ingredients - I source them locally and use as much organic produce as possible. I source my seasonal edible flowers from specialist organic flower farms in Devon and the South West to ensure they are ‘grown not flown’ Florist flowers and supermarket flowers are not suitable for putting onto cakes as they have been sprayed with pesticides and toxic chemicals.

How do I go about ordering a Boho cake?

As I spend most of my time in the kitchen with the mixer on, I have found that email is the best way to get in touch. Please give me as much notice as you can as the cake diary gets incredibly busy, especially in the Spring and Summer months.

For cake enquiries and orders, please provide me with as much detail as possible, including the date of your wedding or celebration, any special dietary needs, your favourite flavours, any ideas about edible floral decoration, the number of guests, the location of your venue, your budget etc. I will respond as quickly as I can. In the peak wedding months, May to September, it may take me longer to reply. You’re also welcome to contact me via my social media too.

The Boho Wedding Cake Planning Process

After your initial enquiry, I will respond with any information on availability approximate price point. At this stage, most of my couples like to secure their booking with a deposit and then arrange a cake tasting. A deposit of £50 secures your date.

Boho Wedding Cake Tastings

Before the meeting, I ask you to suggest some flavours that appeal most to you from my menu. The boho cake meeting is very informal and fun and a chance for us to get to know each other and plan your perfect cake together. Lots of couples arrange their tasting around their meetings with other wedding suppliers. We arrange to meet in Totnes and plan your cake together whilst we eat cake. Your families are also welcome to join in. After our meeting, I write a cake plan with a mood board and a quote.

What if we have to cancel our cake due to unforeseen circumstances?

Sometimes, life doesn’t always go according to plan and these events mean that cake orders may have to be postponed or even cancelled. Covid has taught us all that we need to always remain flexible and endeavour to work around changed plans with understanding and kindness. I will always make sure that I work alongside you and adapt plans with you where necessary. I’m very proud to say that I managed to re-arrange every single postponed wedding cake from 2020 and 2021. In the unlikely event that I cannot fulfil your cake order, I will always return any payments in full and do my best to find another cake maker for you.

How should I store my cake? How long will it last?

I always bake my cakes as close to delivery or collection time to make sure they are super fresh. Cakes are always best eaten on the day you receive them, (they don’t usually last too long!). Your cake will be packaged in a sturdy windowed box and I provide a non-slip mat for the car journey if you are collecting your cake from me. Once the cake has been delivered or collected, the responsibility for the cake then transfers over to you. They don’t need to be stored in the fridge but must be kept in a cool, ambient temperature away from direct sunlight or heat sources. In the unlikely event there’s any cake leftovers, they keep well for 48 hours in a sealed container or tin.

Do you have a cake stand we can use?

I can buy a tree log cake stand for you from my supplier and take it with me to your venue on your big day, so it’s one less thing to think about! I can include the price in your quote and if you return the tree log I will refund you.
